MysticPete: Here's a little bonus, feel free to delete if you don't like it. This shows the creative process I underwent when making the finished Shrimpo sprite I posted earlier. I tend to work on the head before the body, and then, seeing how weird Shrimpo's head-tail looked, I tweaked it to make it look better. Later on, I added a bit of a line beneath one of the fins to make his head look like it had more depth. Spriting him taught me that a lot of spritework at the small scale is about tricking the brain into seeing things that aren't there; tricking it into what you want the viewer to see.
If you're wondering why the first four sprites have mixels (yes, i know, i'm the only person who cares about this), I must've converted them weird when I exported them. Doesn't matter anyway, I think you can still see my process in action.
MysticPete: nah, the file on my PC itself is like that. I took a look at my entire process and I think what happened is that I screwed up while scaling up the first four sprites in aseprite before exporting them. the sprites in this image were enlarged so that the fine details could be better examined by anyone curious.
so, no, the mixels are not because of anything on your end.
